Armadillo girdled lizard

The armadillo girdled lizard Cordylus cataphractus so-called because of its spiny armored scales is emblematic of South Africa and as well as of terrariums, where it is relatively rare! Its maintenance in rocky, desert and dry terrariums is rather simple, but its breeding is much more complicated.

One of the rare social reptilian species, you will need to form couples or stable groups. Once established it will be risky to integrate new individuals. It is a viviparous species giving birth to one or two babies every two years (once per year if you are lucky). In other words, the breeding potential of this species is very low!
